Course Description of Child Development 2:
This course provides information and competencies to assist students interested in careers in child and daycare operations. The development of the child during the preschool years and the philosophy and management of daycare centers is studied in preparation for the laboratory experiences with the preschooler (3-5 years of age). Broad areas of emphasis include: the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of the preschooler; care-giving equipment and facilities; state and local regulations governing care-giving operations; educational and creative activities for preschoolers; the administration and assisting in a care-giving facility; concerns of older adults; and career opportunities in child/adult care
Performance Objectives
1) Describe the changes in an average child's height, weight, proportion, and posture from ages one to three. (Goal: 11.B.4.d)
2) Distinguish between large and small motor skills, and give examples of each. (Goal: 12.A.4a)
3) Describe the general patterns of emotional development in children from ages on to three. (Goal: 11.B.5c)
4) Identify the common emotions of young children and the changes in how those emotions are expressed. (Goal: 13.A.4c)
5) Explain the importance of a positive self-concept, and identify ways it can be developed. (Goal: 4.b.4c)
6) Describe various methods of learning. (Goal: 4.a.4b)
7) Apply listening skills as individuals and members of a group in a variety of setting (e.g. lectures, discussions, conversations, team projects, presentations,interviews) (Goal: 4.a.4a)
