Course Description
This course is designed to assist individuals in achieving satisfaction through responsible participation as adults in the family, community, and workplace. Broad areas of emphasis include: self-esteem, values, goals and decision making, communication and conflict resolution, human sexuality, life stages and life styles, dating and engagement, strengthening family relationships, stress management, changing roles and relationships, family breakdown (death/dissolution). Various resources to assist with life problems are also explored.
Major Assessments Given or Used in Class
Written tests, reports, Internet research, activity and worksheets, cooperative learning activities, written evaluations, rubrics and checklists, observations.
Performance Objectives
1) Identify skills that contribute to successful family life. (Goal: 10.C.4b)
2) Design and conduct simulations (e.g., waiting times at restaurant, probabilities of births, likelihood of game prizes), with and without the use of technology. (Goal: 10.C.4b)
3) Summarize the impact that family laws can have on individuals and families. (Goal: 5.c.4a)
4) Interpret tables, graphs and maps in conjunction with related text (Goal: 1.c.4f)
5) Apply listening skills in practical settings (e.g., classroom note taking, interpersonal conflict situations, giving and receiving directions, evaluating persuasive messages)(Goal: 4.a.4b)
