Course Description:
In this orientation level course, the development of children from conception to the start of the toddler stage is studied. Emphasis is placed on increased understanding of children and the development of basic skills in relating to them. Students will have laboratory experiences with children (2 1/2 -4 years of age). Broad areas of emphasis include: prenatal development; physical development; social development and relationships; intellectual development, emotional development; and purposes, types, and supervision of play.
Major Assessments Given or Used in Class:
Written tests, reports, Internet research, activities, laboratory experiences, written evaluations, observations, rubrics and checklists and portfolios.

S-1-Students will evaluate parenting roles and responsibilities.
S-2-Students will identify growth and development.
S-3-Students will identify characteristics of prenatal care, pregnancy and childbirth.
S-4-Students will explain the growth and development of the newborn and infant.
